Computer Lab
Today in computer lab, we learned about careers and future money payments. We learned that there are many interesting jobs besides just being a nurse, doctor, vet, artist, and tv actors. There are people out there that build cabinets, direct, play music, paint sets, write books, and compose things. We took a look at a website that helped us find what type of job we would have when we would grow up. (I got a 26 in the arts, and that's what I actually wanted!) Then, we took a look at money payments. We checked what things we would want in our life, and found out the total price per year. We got to see what jobs would fit in for that range. Today we learned a lot in computer lab that will help our future careers. ( I also got to be picked up by my sister there1 :D)

Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins 390 pgs.
District 13? Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins, is the third and final book of The Hunger Games series, in which Katniss Everdeen, now Soldier Everdeen, is working in District 13. She is under President Alma Coin's order Peeta is still taken away by the Capitol, and appears many times on Caesar Flickerman's "show." Katniss knows he is being tortured over in that city. One day, Katniss is writing of what she will do, and who she will protect, and one of her things are killing President Snow. By hearing this, President Coin is very pleased. Katniss agrees to be Coin's "Mockingjay" if she lets her fulfill her wishes. Coin agrees, nd Katniss is doing propos, to get the Capitol enraged. Once Katniss is on the go to the Capitol, Gale, her friend and "cousin" is taken awayby Peacekeepers. Katniss sees parachutes, which are supposed to be filled with food and medicine for all the kids in the City Circle, when half of the parachutes blow up. Katniss sees her little blonde haired sister, Primrose "Prim" Everdeen, helping some kids, when all of the other parachutes blow up, and Prim is killed. Katniss is infuriated, devastated, and enraged. Who could do this? President Snow was held responsible, when Katniss went to go talk to him. He says that they promised not to lie to each other, after finding out the truth. When Snow was to be killed, Katniss points her arrow upward, and kills the one responsible. Coin. The evil Alma Coin fell from the top, and died. President Snow was said to die of laughter, or being run over by people. Katniss's friend Paylor is now the president of the Capitol, and The Hunger Games are over. Katniss is speaking from 15 years, married to Peeta Mellark, with 2 children. Her daughter knows about her parents' horrid past, but her son doesn't, but will soon find out. Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, mockingjay, has been through so many hardships, but still sustains her strength.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins 391 pgs.
It's back to the games for Katniss Everdeen. Catching Fire, by Suzanne Collins, is the sequel to The Hunger Games series that is a dystopian young adult fiction. Now 17-year-old Katniss Everdeen is a victor of the Hunger Games, probably the most horrifying thing in Panem, but not to the Capitol. The two "lovers," Peeta and Katniss, are on their victory tours where a couple deaths happen. Katniss and Peeta are to be married, when the news of The Quarter Quell, a Hunger Games tradition for every 25 years, arrives. Katniss and Peeta are to be in them again, but only one will survive, and Katniss is willing to give up her life to save Peeta. During Katniss's "talk" with Caesar Flickerman, Katniss is in her bridal gown, which was created by her stylist Cinna, and spins, thus turning into the Mockingjay, a symbol of rebellion. When it is time for the games, Peacekeepers drag Cinna away, after beating him up, right in front of Katniss's eyes. Katniss is up against many people, like, 24-year-old Finnick Odair, an elderly woman named Mags, and many others. But, when Katniss broke away the force field in the games by shooting her arrow, she is taken away by a hovercraft, along with Finnick, Haymitch, Plutarch and Beetee. Unfortunately, Peeta and Johanna were taken by the Capitol. Gale, Katniss's best friend and "cousin," tells her that her home district, District 12 was destroyed, and luckily, her sister and mother got out safely. Katniss is horrified, and wonders what will await her in District 13.............Find out in Mockingjay.
Katniss 4 line poem
Katniss, Katniss, the girl on fire.
Katniss, Katniss, who will never tire.
Katniss, Katniss, who will not let Coin get away.
Katniss, Katniss, the one and only Mockingjay.
Science Lab
Today in science lab, the room 14ers learned about pollution, and how it affects people and animals. We played a game with plastic teddy bears, both red and blue, and showed how pollution affected them. First, we put 2 pollutants, blue bears, in a plastic jug, then we put 10 healthy bears, red ones, in the jug. Then, we pull 2 bears out of the jug, and if 2 red ones come out, the more bears survive, and in the next pulling, 1 baby bear is added. If 2 blue ones come out, then in the next pulling, one more pollutant is added to the jug. But, if 1 blue and 1 red bear come out, then the healthy red bear has died. We did this 25 times, and at the end of the game, all the bears were extinct. Science lab helped the 14ers learn about pollution by playing an "educational" game! Who says games can't teach learning? :)

Annular Solar Eclipse!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't believe it! For the first time in 18 years, I saw the Annular Ring of Fire (Solar Eclipse)!!!!!! We used a pinhole projector, which you can make by taking a notecard, poking 2 holes in it, and reflecting the sun's rays on a black inatimate object and we saw a shadow on the sun on the black inatimate object! It was really awesome to see it! The next Annular Solar Eclipse is in 2023 according to Google Search sources. Here is a picture that was posted online 3 hours ago:
Here is an even cooler one that was posted online 21 hours ago:
They are so cool!

Science Lab
Today in science lab, we learned about plastics in life. So many things are made out of plastic where we don't even expect it. Toothpaste, carpets, candles, clothes, and hair spray all have plastic in them. (There are very many other things that have plastic in them, but there are too many.) We had to list how many plastic things we use in one day within five minutes. Many people got up to 40, but weren't through the whole day yet. Now I really understand why my grandparents say that things were sometimes better than now.

Computer Lab
All of the room 14 students had a fun time in computer lab, without even knowing that they were using a form of learning. With the help, again, from the British Bitesize website, also known as the BBC, the 14ers learned not just about math, like last week, but they learned about ELA skills, as well as science skills. There were games that showed how much sun, heat, and water to give plants, and games about soundwaves, by using an online guitar. Games also played had to do with writing, and all the key terms of parts of speech, as well as games on how to organize reports. In conclusion, the 6th grade students from room 14 gained a lot of knowledge at the "lab of computers" today.

Tech Lab
In computer lab, room 14ers got to once again prepare for the CSTs. We played games, with the help of our British friends in Bitesize Maths, that prep us in things, such as, angle measurements, 2d shapes, 3d shapes, and many others. The games teach the lesson, and we take a quiz and see if we understand the skill or not. These skills can be applied in life if we are architects that are planning a blueprint using 2d shapes, and building it can be helped by knowing 3d shapes. The math CSTs won't be as hard, since we reviewed many skills in computer lab for the upcoming exam.

WHAT IN THE NAME OF FLYIN FLADOODLES???!!!!
Hey guys! Alli and I were at Science Olympiad today. We didn't get any medals for 2/3 of our events. We were waiting and getting so excited hoping we would win our last event, Animal or Vegetable or Mineral. But then, the anouncer ended the award ceremony without calling the event! He said that he would anounce it later on that day, and Alli and I were like 'Nobody is going to be here!' Then he left. We were furious, along with other kids, we imagined. It hurt us so much. WE DO NOT LIKE THOSE GUYS!!!!! They are super horrible. It's not fair. Can you guys believe it?

Computer Lab
Today in computer lab, the room 14ers picked up a lot of information. We used the British Bitesize Math website to prepare for the CST. We played games that taught the lesson on the central measures of tendency, probability, and frequency diagrams, and afterwards, we took a test to see if we understood the lesson or not. If we missed one, we would have to start over the lesson, but if we didn't miss any, we got to move on to the next topic. With the help of Bitsize Math, the room 14ers got to learn some new subjects, and prepare for the CST.

Funny!
After school today, Allison and I were reading over our ancient civ. stuff together, while eating Hershey's Milk Chocolate Kisses with Almonds. Allison pulled out a Hershey's Almond Kiss, but it was a regular one! We don't why a regular one was in an almond bag, but all we know, is that it was really funny.

Science Lab
Mrs. Martines taught us new and interesting things having to do with science. We learned about differnet resources, and got into detail about where they were from, what they were, and what the uses of the resource were. We found out that 42% of our energy is from natural gas, over things that were 2%, such as solar and water power. The room 14 students also learned that nuclear power, the resource that caused Japan's horrible tsunami, is so dangerous, that Fresno put up a ban that no more nuclear plants be built. Today's science lab handed out a lot of knowledge to room 14 students.

Computer Lab
The making of rich, creamy, and sweet chocolates, our own online math tutor, and much more. We, room 14ers, learned many interesting and new things in computer lab today. We went to different sites including Wonderopolis, and the Khan Academy. We watched videos of how people make chocolate. First, they take the chocolate powder, mix it with milk, and roll them into little wet squares. To make the design, they put a special sheet of paper, with a design, on the melty chocolates, and the design appears on them! We also saw Mr. Salman Khan with the Khan Academy on a PBS interview, and learned how Salman started his math tutoring in a little closet, and then Bill Gates discovered him, and his amazing work, and paid him 3 million dollars for people to start working with him. Then,Google discovered him, and paid him 1 million dollars to have even more people with him. We learned about the wonders of fancy delights, the discovery of our math genius Salman, and many other things in the computer lab!

I was reading my cousin's health definitions. They created some funny thing for her to remember each definition. Two that I thought were funny that everyone woud get were: bowel-Any letter such as A,E,I,O, or U. CAT Scan- searching for a kitty. We should do something like that sometime! :D

POEM
“Colors of Me” By: Sumanjit#13
Soft pink like a cherry blossom,
I am shy.
Neon green like the lights in Paris,
I am always crafty.
Black as a twilight night,
I am serious.
Red like a blooming rose,
I always am artsy.
Peach like the juicy fruit,
I am very hopeful.
Hot pink like the juicy watermelons,
I am happy.
Light blue like a blue jay,
I am simple.
Yellow as a sour lemon,
I am talkative.
Lavender like the beautiful lilac,
I am quiet.
Gold like a first place medal,
I am sarcastic.
